Can heat deflectors double as pizza stones?

I have a quick question, I've heard most people don't use the heat deflectors, but I'm wondering, can they be used as a pizza stone, or are they made of totally different material? I would love some guidance before I try tossing a pizza on one. Thanks!

Good question. Heat deflectors arent meant for cooking directly on and might not be food safe, even if they look like a pizza stone. You're better off using an actual pizza stone to play it safe .
 
You can use ceramic heat deflectors as a pizza stone in a pinch, but they're not exactly the same as a dedicated pizza stone. They're thicker and designed to absorb and diffuse heat slowly rather than give that instant, crisp bottom crust. You'll probably need to preheat them longer, and they might not handle repeated high-temperature bakes as well as a real pizza stone. That said, if you go slow and keep an eye on it, you can definitely pull off a decent pizza, just don't expect it to be exactly like a traditional pizza stone bake

Got it, thanks for clarifying, I didn't want to risk ruining the deflector or my pizza, it sounds like sticking with a real pizza stone is the smarter choice, even if it's tempting to multitask with the heat deflector

I'll stick with a real pizza stone for best results, deflectors might work in a pinch, but I don't want to risk uneven cooking or damaging them with repeated high-heat bakes.
